NGOCC Joins REA in Celebrating Media Excellence
NGOCC, through its Executive Director, Ms Anne Mbewe Anamela, was honored to have been invited to present one of the awards during the prestigious annual Rural Electrification Authority (REA) Media Awards Gala held on Wednesday 27th March 2024.
The prestigious awards held to celebrate development Journalism as it relates to REA’s work on connecting communities to electricity was held at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre.
REA recognises excellence in media reporting of it work by Journalists from both the public, private media institutions and freelancers.
The award seeks to encourage and celebrate media commitments and support for REA’s efforts to promote increased citizen’s access to electricity, especially in rural areas.
The awards also honor the excellence of quality and investigative-driven journalism in a country where rural areas are going through different development phases in line with the government’s socioeconomic aspirations.
NGOCC and REA have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to among other collaborate to promote women’s access to electricity especially in rural areas.
The memorandum of understanding was signed between the two institutions in 2018, to increase both access rate and productivity rate in various rural communities in Zambia.
More recently in 2023, the two institutions worked together and empowered the Nkolongozya Women’s Club members of Kalomo District in Southern Province with 100 solar lighting kits worth K1,075,849.63 (US$55,404.62).
