I Will Never Forget This Day! – Ms Monde Yeta
By Mutale Mwamba
As we count down to the commemoration of International Women’s Day, NGOCC celebrates the women who played a pivotal role in building the foundation of a vibrant women’s movement, sometimes with methods and strategies that were a great cost and risk to themselves.
One such gallant soldier of the women’s movement is Ms. Monde Yeta. To this day, she remains a passionate woman ‘s rights activist who has always been keen to see women’s financial inclusion. Unfortunately, she suffered a stroke which made her bedridden.
In recognition of her invaluable contribution to society especially women, NGOCC Board Chairperson, Ms. Grace Manyonga-Sinkamba, and the NGOCC Executive Director Ms. Anne Mbewe-Anamela, led a small team that visited her home in Ibex Hill, Lusaka. The visit was characterized by much laughter, tales recounting past activism, and dissection of the current challenges as well as opportunities for the women’s movement. That alone moved her to say, “I WILL NEVER FORGET THIS DAY”.
The visiting team later surprised her with a brand-new wheelchair leading her and her caregivers into tears of joy in appreciation.
The other team members included: Patricia Lwaile Siakanomba, Elizabeth Kanyemba and Mutale Mwamba, all from the NGOCC Secretariat.
