We Can Collaborate More on Many Fronts – Ms. Katebe

NGOCC Chairperson Beauty Katebe has called for enhanced collaboration between her organization and the Government, particularly, the Gender Division and the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services to advance the well-being of women and girls.

And in welcoming this call, Permanent Representative of Zambia, to the United Nations, His Excellency Dr. Chola Milambo noted that strengthening areas of joint efforts is cardinal to the advancement of gender equality in Zambia.

This was said during a courtesy call on the Zambian Permanent Mission to the United Nations by the NGOCC Chairperson and the NGOCC Executive Director Ms. Anne Mbewe-Anamela on the sidelines of the ongoing 69th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women.

“As NGOCC we appreciate the fact that the government has recognized the role of Civil Society Organisations in advancing the gender agenda as can be seen from the efforts to collaborate here at the CSW in New York. We can definitely continue to work together for the common cause not only here abroad but home as well”
“We will surely disagree here and there on certain matters but that should not mean we cannot work together in promoting the rights of women and girls” Ms Katebe added.

Amb. Malambo took time to welcome the NGOCC delegation to the Zambian Permanent Mission to the United Nations and underscored the government’s commitment to place gender at the core of its governance.

“Beyond the economic diplomacy, the Zambian government has a very healthy relationship with the United Nations, and we are determined to use this to ensure gender is part of the engagements and that cannot complete without the involvement of the CSOs such as you the NGOCC” he said
He added “In fact, the UN system has acknowledged that Zambia has one of highest numbers of female peace keeping soldiers, a further indication of the Country’s commitment to ensure women are given equal opportunities on many fronts. Therefore, we welcome you and look forward working with you here and even back home”
