The NGOCC Executive Director Anne Mbewe-Anamela has reiterated her organisation’s desire to collaborate with the media, in an effort to shine a light on the plight of the marginalized groups such as women and girls.
Speaking at a Breakfast Meeting with Editors and Senior Reporters of selected Lusaka-based media houses yesterday Ms. Anamela said NGOCC appreciates the role of the media in the gender agenda.
“As NGOCC, we appreciate the value you bring to our work as the media. We decided to engage you this morning because we want to take stock of how we have worked with you all and also explore ways we could work better and enhance the relationship we have with you,” Ms. Anamela said.
“We would also like to take this opportunity to introduce our new Board Chairperson who most of you are very familiar with. It is our hope that you will give her the support you have always rendered NGOCC.”
The NGOCC Board Chairperson Ms. Beauty Katebe took some time to urge the media to continue collaborating with NGOCC, to ensure the plight of vulnerable women and girls gets the necessary, timely and adequate attention.
“I am glad to be meeting you all wearing a different hat, as NGOCC Chairperson. What I would like you to know is that when you say NGOCC is quiet it could be because you are not covering us or because we are not saying anything,” Ms. Katebe said.
“We need to understand that we need each other. NGOCC needs the media to be able to share the issues that affect women and girls.”
Ms Katebe also invited the media to be free to engage her and declared that she was ready whenever called upon by them.
“I invite you all to feel very free to work with with us and we are ready whenever you would like our contribution on various issues of strategic interest to the mandate of NGOCC. NGOCC will always be open to the media, and we will always create various platforms to engage with you the media,” said Ms. Katebe.
