The Non-governmental Gender Organisations’ Coordinating Council has launched a song aimed at encouraging Zambians to vote for women in the forthcoming General Elections.
Non-governmental Gender Organisations’ Coordinating Council (NGOCC) worked with top Zambian artistes to produce the ‘Vote for a Woman’ campaign song meant to stress the importance of women’s participation in politics.
“The aim of the song is to encourage Zambians to vote for women in the forthcoming General Elections. We are happy that we have some women occupying decision-making positions but we need more. It’s good that there are a lot of women aspiring candidates in different political parties. We would like to encourage Zambians to vote for women in the 2021 General Elections. We are looking at building a critical mass that will support women,” said NGOCC Vice Board Chairperson.
The ‘Vote for a Woman’ campaign song, which was launched on Radio Phoenix’s Let the People Talk Programme features the likes of songbird Wezi, singer Macky 2 and his brother Chef 187, as well as female rapper Bombshell and veteran singer Maureen Lilanda.
The song opens with lyrics by Wezi before her colleagues join her on the vocals and chorus.
NGOCC is currently implementing the Coordinated Elections Campaign Strategy (CECS) to foster women’s participation in politics ahead of the 2021 General Election. The organization is engaging political parties to adopt women as candidates ahead of the General Elections.
