Zambia Police Service in Gender Awareness Training

The NGOCC has partnered with the Zambia Police Service to conduct a three-day Gender Awareness Training from 26-28 April 2017. The Gender awareness training is one in the many efforts aimed at promoting collaboration between the Zambia Police and NGOCC in promoting equality in the Zambia Police Service structures by building capacities of targeted women police officers in gender, leadership skills and child protection to enable them participate in decision making positions.

The training being held at Melsim Lodge in Lusaka, has a total of 25 Police Officers with 21 female and 4 male. Furthermore, the training is aimed at scaling up the number of female Police officers to be deployed on United Nations missions from the 26% in 2011 to at least 30% of the total because most of the affected countries where peace keeping services are needed, more women and children than men are in dire need of assistance. 

During the official opening of the Training, Zambia Police Deputy Director Training Elizabeth Kanjela reminded the trainees of the need to have strong attributes and develop themselves. She challenged the trainees to be ‘assertive, vigilant, observe respective country laws and set personal goals and work towards achieving them.’
