The United Nations declared 11th October as the International Day of the Girl Child. This day recognizes girls’ rights and the unique challenges girls face around the world. This day concentrates on the need to address the challenges girls face and to promote girls’ empowerment and the fulfillment of their human rights.
This is set against the backdrop that adolescent girls have the right to a life that is secure, healthy, and educated, not just during their crucial years of development, but also as they grow into adulthood and become women.
Girls have the power to transform the world if they are given the right support during their adolescence. They can become the strong women of tomorrow’s workforce, mothers, business owners, mentors, political figures etc.
An investment in realising the power of adolescent girls upholds their rights today and promises a more equitable and prosperous future, one in which half of humanity is an equal partner in solving the problems of climate change, political conflict, economic growth, disease prevention, and global sustainability.
Additionally, girls are breaking boundaries and barriers posed by stereotypes and exclusion, including those directed at children with disabilities and those living in marginalized communities.
Wishing all girls a future filled with hope, opportunities, and endless possibilities. Let’s work together to create a world where every girl thrives!
