The Non-governmental Gender Organisations’ Coordinating Council (NGOCC) today hosted a delegation from the United Nations as part of a technical mission to Zambia ahead of the General Elections scheduled for August 2026.
The meeting, held at NGOCC’s Secretariat earlier today was attended by the representatives from the UN Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (DPPA) and the UN Electoral Assistance Division (EAD), led by UN Representatives Martinho Chachiua, Simon-Pierre Nanitelamio and Noria Mashumba. The visit was facilitated by the Office of the UN Resident Coordinator in Zambia.
During the engagement, NGOCC Executive Director Ms. Anne Mbewe-Anamela and her team comprising Acting Programmes Manager Mendai Imasiku and Coordinator- Communications, Advocacy and Networking, Samuel C.C Mwanakatwe shared both the positive developments and prevailing concerns regarding the current electoral environment in Zambia. NGOCC expressed optimism that the political parties would ensure electoral process will be truly fair, inclusive, and representative, with greater responsibility on the governing party.
The UN mission’s visit forms part of a broader framework of United Nations support to Zambia’s electoral process, following an earlier headquarters mission conducted with government ministries, national stakeholders, and international cooperating partners in November 2024.
The meeting provided a platform to exchange perspectives on the evolving electoral landscape and to explore continued collaboration in support of peaceful and credible elections in Zambia.
