NGOCC INTRODUCES THE OFFICE OF DFPPs
The Non-governmental Gender Organisations’ Coordinating Council (NGOCC) has introduced an office of District Focal Point Persons (DFPPs) in the Provinces and at District level to help support the day to day operations of the secretariat which is the coordinating body.
During the orientation meeting for some selected DFPPs in Lusaka, NGOCC chairperson Mary Mulenga said she had no doubt that having DFPPs would allow for the information exchange and flow between the secretariat and the members.
“By extension therefore you are the link between our members and the secretariat. I have no doubt that having DFPPs will allow for the information exchange and flow between the secretariat and the members. We therefore expect you to be more assertive and innovative to ensure the vibrancy of the movement. As you will learn NGOCC is largely an advocacy organisation and we therefore expect that with your presence we will strengthen our push for greater gender equality,” Ms. Mulenga said.
“Your role will be to facilitate the liaison between the secretariat and the Member Organisation by ensuring effective communication as the focal point at District level. You therefore will play an integral role in the work of NGOCC. One of the foremost requisites of this position is the need for one to be an activist. This position requires that you develop an interest in gender and women’s rights in general.”
Ms. Mulenga said DFPPs will be guided by a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) stipulating their functions in line with NGOCC Coordinating and Communication Strategy and/or based on project activity dictates from time to time.
“Let me reiterate that NGOCC will continue identifying and working with volunteers as District Focal Point Persons in the Provinces and at District level to act as a link between secretariat and Member Organisations, and also to mobilise a critical mass in order to amplify the women’s voice especially during joint advocacy activities,” said Ms. Mulenga.
