NGOCC Board Vice Chairperson, Ms. Mwaka Mulenga this morning led a delegation of the women’s movement for a meeting with Vice President, Mutale Nalumango.
The women’s movement engaged the Vice President on a number of issues affecting women and girls in Zambia, most importantly the need for the re-establishment of the Ministry responsible for Gender.
In her presentation, Ms. Mulenga also urged the government to develop a clear roadmap for constitution reform that would be broad based.
She said the government should facilitate for a standalone National Referendum to ensure the inclusion of the expanded Bill of Rights.
She said the expanded bill of rights are important to the most vulnerable in society, especially women and children.
“The expanded bill of rights will ensure that the government provides for the most vulnerable,” she said
She said most of the challenges, Zambia was facing was as a result of the weak constitutional framework.
And Vice President, Mutale Nalumango commended the women’s movement for their continued advocacy for women’s rights.
The Vice President however challenged women to be assertive and claim their rightful positions in society.
She said women remained discriminated largely because they were not more assertive.
The NGOCC delegation also included, the Board Secretary Ms. Patricia Mukumbuta and the NGOCC Executive Director, Ms. Anne Mbewe Anamela.
